Now that you’ve smelled the roses, it’s probably a good time to introduce you to Orange Blossom Water. You can look at this beautiful extract as Rose Water’s cousin, but they’re definitely not twins! Extracted from the blossoms of orange trees, this water tends to have a citrusy, and more earthy undertone. It is sweet, but not as sweet as Rose Water, so our advice is to use it sparingly if you only want a hint of fragrance, and use it generously when you want a burst of vibrant and sweet orange flavour.
Like Rose Water, it has made its way around the world and many giants in the food world absolutely love this ingredient (you have to try Martha Stewart’s Date Cake with Orange Blossom Syrup, you won’t regret it!). It is also believed that the Princess of Nerola, Anne Marie Orsini, used orange blossom water as a perfume in her baths.
