The traditional Middle Eastern dessert built on crisp, buttered kataifi pastry.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 cups Balsam Roasted Kataifi
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 2 cups mozzarella or akkawi cheese, shredded
- 1 cup sugar syrup, for soaking
METHOD
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Toss the kataifi with melted butter and press half into a greased pan.
- Layer the cheese over the kataifi, then top with the remaining kataifi.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes until deep golden, then soak with warm sugar syrup right out of the oven.
Because this kataifi is already roasted, it crisps up faster than raw shredded phyllo — keep an eye on it after the 25-minute mark.
