Crumbled cardamom halawa worked straight into a classic shortbread dough.

  1. Cream the butter and sugar, then work in the crumbled halawa.
  2. Mix in the flour just until a dough forms.
  3. Roll into a log, chill for 30 minutes, then slice and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12–14 minutes.

Chilling the dough is essential here — the halawa softens the dough more than butter alone, so a cold log slices much more cleanly.
